who else wants a birth like this?

I remember being pregnant in 2009 and suddenly being super interested in listening to women’s birthing stories.

Which women? Well, to be quite honest any women! I was hooked on them all, from the dramatic stories in One Born Every Minute to more unusual ones featured on various documentaries.

I mean, it’s kind of interesting to get such a personal insight into someone’s life – especially when you’re about to go through a similar experience yourself.

But, at the end of the day, although these stories might have been entertaining and gripping, on the whole they weren’t exactly what I’d call inspiring or uplifting material.

And, to be frank, they weren’t the birth experiences that I wanted for myself.

So I made it a point to seek out and find wonderfully empowering and positive birth stories – ones that gave me a vision of what my birth (and yours) COULD be.

So, if like me, you’re looking for birthing inspiration that just doesn’t seem to make it to the mainstream press or if you’re surrounded by friend’s and family’s negative experiences of birth….

I’ve got the perfect thing for you.

Laura, was one of our HypnoBirthing and Yoga students, with a beautiful vibrant personality and a gorgeous Italian accent - who has incidentally gone on to have her 2nd baby Isabel – congrats Laura!

Here she is so generously sharing the story of her 1st child, Zachary’s birth - which has already been hugely inspirational to those of our students who were lucky enough to hear it first hand at one of our recent Tea & Chat sessions.

So to find out more read on – over to you Laura….

I still remember the birth of my son Zachary with a feeling of happiness and pure joy.

I‘d like to share it with you as HypnoBirthing made it very special and allowed us to have the best possible experience both as a couple and then parents. I remember the excitement building up to my due date, looking out for signs that maybe labour was about to start.

I expected to feel some twinges maybe during the night or early hours of the following day... but nothing! I tried all the natural remedies to bring on labour including going for long walks and acupuncture and finally on Sunday, 25 September it happened! We went out for Sunday lunch with some friends at our local then shortly after coming back home I felt a POP, my waters had gone!

I called Adam to let him know to start getting ready timing the contractions and supporting me during the next few hours.

We moved to the living room, where I put on the positive birth affirmations CD and sat on the birthing ball doing the Calm Breathing Technique.  We rang the midwives a couple of times after my waters broke, and Adam managed to stay calm, reminded me to use the different breathing techniques and also to keep my jaw relaxed... he was my rock.

Once the midwifes arrived at 10.30 and checked my progress, they were very surprised to find out that I was already 6 cm dilated and it wouldn't be long before the birth. The contractions were intense and close to each other now but I still managed to use just the HypnoBirthing breathing techniques and Visualisation.

I moved to the birthing pool when I was almost fully dilated, I could feel the urge to bear down and changed my breathing to the Birth Breath Technique. My favourite music was on in the back ground and being in the water felt sooo good!

Adam came in to support me while I was squatting telling me how well I was doing and to gather my strength to bring our baby into the world.

Zachary was born at 2.45 26th September with the Gorillaz playing on the radio...and he wasn't even crying! He was on my chest gurgling and alert, 6lb 13 ounces of cuteness!!

I did it, I overcame the fear of the unknown, found a primordial strength that I didn't know I had and for the first time felt very proud to be a woman, grateful for the wonderful empowering experience I've just been through.

I can say that as a couple we are now closer and the knowledge gathered during the HypnoBirthing course is a tool for life.

A big thank you to James & Leyla Fellows for enabling us to have one of the best experiences of our life. Laura, Adam & Zachary
